We’ve all heard the scary stories of the lazy men and everything they won’t do for love, or anything else for that matter. As nightmare inducing as these stories were, they always ended with some tiny shimmery light of hope. Still, it is true the men in these stories were so lazy that they needed to be asked more than once to take out the garbage and had to be sweetly persuaded to keep up on the weekly yard work. This is the old lazy man, old as in, used to be. There were good things about this creature that made his laziness bearable and one of them was that he could eventually be convinced, consciously or subconsciously, to do what he had to do, but however it happened, this lazy man never got too lazy to get the job done.
Now instead of just hearing stories of lazy men, we are living in the era of a new breed of lazy man, the lethargic losers. The guys that are making their way across the great generation divide are more than lazy. These guys are comatose and neglectful, drowsy and careless, and indifferent to everything and everybody, even themselves.
Where did these guys come from? Maybe the original lazy guy caused the ball to start rolling down hill, and these guys are the result of generations of fathers that were the, not so bad, but lazy men. That may have been how it all started, but this extreme descent into nothingness has been nurtured slowly, but steadily by society and women in particular.
Nobody would consciously want or support a guy who’s only motivation was some beer, the television, and as many internet connections that he could make in between his parents using their computer. But the very survival of this kind of guy depends on the support of everybody around him.
This new lazy guy usually lives with his parents until he meets the girl of his dreams and moves in with her, but this doesn’t happen very often because the guy is too lazy to pack and move, as a matter of fact just thinking about it makes him tired. This guy has big dreams, but how can he not when he sleeps fourteen hours a day. Jobs make the new lazy guy tired so he can only have them once in a while, well he needs to work enough to buy new clothes and cologne in case he goes out. Having a girlfriend really puts a fire under this lazy guy, at least until the first time his girlfriend says that relationships are work. That’s not to say that he wouldn’t do anything to keep her as long as she didn’t expect him to keep doing it. The worst thing about the new lazy guy is that sometimes his laziness comes off as laid back and even tempered, making a woman think she has found a great guy, but what she has really found is a guy too lazy to make the effort to act any other way.
